Abstract:
Experiments on microgravity crystal growth in gradient magnetic fields
for nickel sulfate and lysozyme are compared with finite element
simulations. These simulations include the inhomogeneous effective
gravity that accompanied the magnet experiments. An excellent agreement
between the simulations and the experiments was found. Methods to
reduce the adverse effects of the inhomogeneous effective gravity and
to optimize the growth conditions are discussed.
