On the (200) face of e-caprolactam growing from the vapor phase several growth phenomena were obsd. in situ by optical microscopy: single spirals, multiple spirals, spirals growing with monomol. steps, vapor-liq.-solid (VLS) growth and two-dimensional nucleation. From the observations and measured growth rates the relative importance of the vol., surface diffusion and step integration as the rate detg. step of the growth process are elaborated.
