The crystal growth of C60 from the vapor phase was studied by surface topog. of slowly cooled and quenched crystals. Two growth mechanisms are present: hopper growth and step growth from dislocation and eventually other defect sources. The results are interpreted using existing crystal growth theories concerning vol. transport, surface migration and kink integration limited growth. From step shapes and growth rates the growth is detd. by vol. and surface diffusion.
