Abstract:
A new, systematic way of predicting the growth morphology of crystals
is presented in this paper. In our approach, the relation between the relative
growth rate and habit-controlling factors is derived according to crystal
growth mechanisms. To calculate relevant internal and external
habit-controlling factors, a conventional PBC analysis and a so-called
interfacial structure (IS) analysis are carried out, respectively. To check
our
approach, the morphology of several crystals is predicted using our
formalisms, and comparisons are made between our approach and the
Hartman-Perdok theory and experiments. The theoretical growth morphology
of the crystals predicted by our formalism turns out to be in excellent
agreement with the observed one.
