The central research theme is crystal growth. Our goal is to obtain a fundamental understanding of the processes that occur during growth (or etching) of crystals and to apply this understanding to the prediction and control of crystal morphology and perfection. We use a strong interaction between theoretical, computational and experimental methods. By this approach we investigate a broad range of materials, ranging from proteins to semiconductor nanowires.
